EGaIn Liquid Metal

Apr 26, 2022

At room temperature, eutectic gallium indium (EGaIn) is a liquid metal alloy. Due to its good thermal conductivity, high dielectric constant, infinite deformability, and metallic electrical conductivity, EGaIn is widely used in the research of flexible electronics and soft robotics, and is an important component of flexible composite materials. EGaIn microdroplets are usually incorporated into polymer elastomers by means of mechanical mixing to fabricate stretchable and high-strength flexible multifunctional composites with high thermal stability and electrical conductivity. However, the current mechanical blending method leads to the formation of irregularly shaped microdroplets and anisotropic distribution of metal droplets, which greatly affects the properties of such composites.

Therefore, how to obtain stable, high and uniform size EGaIn droplets of micron or smaller size has attracted great attention from the material science community.
